Mentoring Ministry in Romania |
Lynn Wohland has been the East End Area Director for the past four year. In 2008, she is leaving this beautiful Island to go to assist the Romanian Church to minister to the orphan’s of that country in many of the same ways that she has done so well here. Please join me in bathing this new extension of mentoring ministry in prayer. The following is her last monthly snap shot of her ministry here. Please sit back and see what God is doing though His people.
Dear Friends and Family:
Well, this is it. Hard to believe that this is the last prayer letter I will write to you from Long Island Youth Mentoring. I am not sure what to

The Other Side
By Debbie Prezzano
My nine-year-old son told me the other day that “God is a really good artist.” I emphatically agreed, as we both marveled at how the leaves on our maple tree in the backyard had become brilliant yellow. He then proceeded to proudly exhibit his newly found knowledge of why this is so. He explained that “The leaves are actually always that color, but it doesn’t show through until the leaves die and the chlorophyll (his dad must have helped him study) disappears.” I quickly let him know how impressed I was to receive this information from him as he bounded off to add to his pile of gold to jump into.
As I stood there enjoying the scene before me, I was impressed with another thought, as from within, a still small voice whispered to my heart and said, “The more you allow the earthly things in your life to die the more vibrantly my true glorious colors will show in you.” Well, I guess it does not take the Sermon on the Mount to blow me away, one simple example of God’s truth and glory exhibited in a tree in my backyard and another area of my life was yielded to him. God truly is a “really good artist”. We were all created to exhibit the splendor of God’s glory, but our brilliance has been covered up as we fill ourselves with sin. Thank ...

Through Thick and Thin
By Larry Raab
Director, Long Island Ministry
In his sermon the pastor said, “If you are going to be salt, you must be in direct contact with those God has called you to minister too.” At that moment, I realized I could not think of a ministry where that is more appropriate than Long Island Youth Mentoring’s one-to-one methodology.
Jeff and Tommy were en route to ride go karts when 15-year old Tommy, fiddling with the Royal Pine air freshener hanging from the mirror, nonchalantly told his mentor, Jeff, that his family would probably be moving to Tennessee soon.
Normally, if a child tells you their family is moving, you would assume all the children are as well. But, because Tommy’s family is broken and scattered about, as so many of the families we work with are, it is “normal” to ask, “Are you going with them?” which Jeff did.
Tommy began answering in the affirmative when he stiffened and stopped pulling on the air freshener. It had struck him in mid-sentence that if he did move, he would no longer see Jeff. Upon that realization, he became very animated explaining that he would have to remain on
